The Rare Caribbean Beach With Nobody Else On It
If you are staying at Excellence Playa Mujeres and looking for a photographer, the good news is that you picked the calmest coastline near Cancún. Playa Mujeres is a gated community roughly thirty minutes north of downtown, and because the whole resort is adults-only, the beach in front of it has none of the things that ruin a portrait: no inflatable slides, no beach volleyball tournament behind you, no family of six walking through your frame at the exact moment the light turns gold.
We shoot here for couples, mostly. Anniversaries that ended up in Mexico because it was easier than agreeing on a restaurant at home. Second honeymoons. Proposals that have been planned for four months over WhatsApp. The sand runs long and flat, the water is quiet, and at 6:40 in the morning you will very likely have the entire shoreline to yourselves — which is the single hardest thing to find anywhere else on this coast.
Why an Adults-Only Beach Photographs Differently
It is not about luxury — it is about who else is on the sand when we press the shutter.
-
Empty backgrounds
With no kids' club and no family crowds, the shoreline stays clear — so your portraits have open sand and horizon behind you instead of strangers.
-
Sunrise you can actually use
The coast faces east into the open Caribbean. First light arrives soft and low, and here there are no high-rise towers to block it or throw shadows across the sand.
-
Long, flat sand for walking shots
The beach runs uninterrupted for a long stretch, which lets us do slow walking frames and wide, cinematic distance shots that need room to breathe.
-
Twenty minutes of quiet
Because the community is gated and set apart from the hotel zone, there is no through-traffic on the beach — it stays calm well past sunrise.
The Sessions Guests Here Book Most
Almost every session we shoot on this beach involves two people and something worth marking.
Anniversaries
The most common reason people write to us from this resort. You have been together long enough that a dinner does not cut it any more, and you would rather have twenty photographs where you both look like yourselves. We keep it unposed — walking, talking, standing still while the water comes in — and shoot at sunrise while the beach is empty.
Proposals
We photograph proposals here regularly, and this beach is well suited to it: we can position ourselves far enough away to stay invisible, because the sand is open and there is nothing to hide behind. You get the moment itself, the reaction, and then a proper couple's session afterwards while the adrenaline is still up.
Honeymoons and second honeymoons
A quiet hour on the beach at the start of the trip, so you have real photographs of the two of you rather than a week of selfies at arm's length.
Where the Resort Sits — and What That Means for the Light
Excellence Playa Mujeres is inside the gated Playa Mujeres community, on the coast north of Cancún and across the channel from Isla Mujeres. It is about thirty minutes from downtown Cancún and roughly forty from the airport, on a stretch of coast that was developed late and stayed low — no towers, no strip, just a marina, a golf course and a long run of white sand.
That low, late development is exactly why the light works. On the hotel zone strip, sunrise is partly eaten by the buildings behind you; here nothing blocks the eastern horizon, so the first twenty minutes of the day land clean on the sand and on your faces.
How a Session Works When You Are Staying Here
We come to you. There is no travel fee to Playa Mujeres, and we meet at a public beach access a short walk from the resort — Mexican beaches are federal public property with open access, so we can photograph the shoreline regardless of any resort's policy on outside vendors. Sessions run about an hour and are fully guided; you do not need to know how to pose, and we will tell you where to put your hands.
Sunrise is what we recommend here, and it is not a close call: the beach faces east, and early morning is both the prettiest light and the emptiest sand. If you would rather sleep, late afternoon still works — the sky turns warm even though the sun sets behind you.
What a Session Here Costs
Pricing is straightforward and there is no session fee: $15 USD per photo with a 10-photo minimum ($150 USD), or a package from $200 USD. For a couple, ten to fifteen images usually covers an anniversary session comfortably. You pay only for the frames you choose — every option is on our Cancún photographer page.

Photo Sessions at Excellence Playa Mujeres — FAQ
Do you come out to Playa Mujeres? Is there a travel fee?
Yes, we photograph on this stretch of coast regularly, and there is no travel fee to Playa Mujeres or Costa Mujeres. We meet you at a public beach access a short walk from the resort.
Can you photograph a surprise proposal without being noticed?
Yes — it is one of the sessions we do most here. We agree on a spot and a signal beforehand, then position ourselves at a distance with a long lens. You get the moment as it actually happened, plus a full couple's session afterwards.
What time of day is best on this beach?
Sunrise, clearly. The coast faces east with nothing blocking the horizon, so the light is soft and low, and at that hour the sand is essentially empty. Late afternoon is the fallback if mornings are impossible.
How much does a session cost?
There is no session fee. You pay $15 USD per photo with a 10-photo minimum ($150 USD), or choose a package from $200 USD. You only pay for the images you actually want.
Can we do the session if we are not staying at the resort?
Yes. We photograph on the public shoreline, so where you are staying does not change anything — plenty of our clients here are staying elsewhere in the Playa Mujeres area.
