The Whole Wide Beach, Just the Two of You
Sandos Cancun turned a page recently: now a fully adults-only resort, it sits on one of the broadest, calmest beaches in the hotel zone — the Playa Ballenas stretch at Retorno del Rey km 14. That change matters more than it sounds. When the kids stay home, the whole tone of a trip shifts, and so does the tone of the photographs. Honeymooners, couples marking an anniversary, and parents-to-be on a quiet babymoon come to us wanting the same thing: unhurried, editorial portraits with room to breathe, made on a beach wide enough that it feels like your own.
We've photographed thousands of sessions up and down Blvd. Kukulcán, and the Ballenas sand in front of Sandos is one of our favourite places to slow down. It is a long, open shoreline — the same generous stretch shared with the Marriott resorts next door — so there is space to walk, space to pose, and space between you and everyone else. No crowds pressing in, no strollers to dodge. Just two people, warm Caribbean light, and an hour that belongs entirely to you.
Time Slows Down on the Ballenas Stretch
The moment Sandos went adults-only, its beach became a different kind of backdrop. There are no spring-break crowds, no games in the shallows, no queue for the perfect patch of sand. The Playa Ballenas shoreline is one of the widest in the hotel zone, which means we can spread out — start with soft portraits near the dune grass, drift down to the waterline, and never once feel rushed or watched. For couples who chose an adults-only resort precisely because they wanted quiet, that calm carries straight into the images.
Most of our clients aren’t models, and they tell us the same thing: they don’t want to perform. On a beach this open, they don’t have to. We give gentle, specific direction — where to look, how to hold hands, when to keep walking — and the wide, empty sand does the rest. The result feels editorial but never staged: the two of you, at ease, in the light you flew here for.
Honeymooners and Couples, Unhurried
A honeymoon deserves better than a propped-up phone on the sand. So do the couples who simply came to Cancun to be together, no occasion required. We plan a relaxed hour on the Ballenas beach — outfits, timing and a handful of spots that photograph well — and shoot entirely at your pace. If you would like a sense of how we work with two people who would rather laugh than pose, our guide to couples photo sessions in Cancun walks through it.
Anniversaries That Deserve More Than a Phone
Five years, twenty-five, or the first trip you have taken alone since the children arrived — an anniversary is exactly the kind of milestone this beach was made to hold. We keep it intimate: a slow walk along the shoreline, a few quiet portraits as the light turns gold, nothing that feels like a production. Couples marking a special year often pair the session with our anniversary photoshoot ideas for Cancun for a little inspiration beforehand.
A Babymoon on Calm, Open Sand
Sandos has become a popular choice for babymoons, and the wide, level Ballenas beach is genuinely comfortable for it — easy footing, short walks, and a shoreline where you can rest whenever you need to. We photograph expecting couples gently and at their own tempo, with plenty of pauses. Our maternity and babymoon session guide covers what to wear and when in the pregnancy the light is kindest.
Room to Breathe on the Widest Sand in the Zone
Everything that makes Sandos a calm place to stay makes it a calm place to be photographed — space, quiet, and an adults-only rhythm you can feel in every frame.
-
One of the widest beaches in the zone
The Ballenas shoreline in front of Sandos gives us room to work — long sightlines, clean backgrounds, and no need to crowd the frame.
-
Adults-only calm
No children's games, no spring-break noise. The quiet lets us take our time and keeps every portrait feeling private.
-
A few minutes from two icons
Playa Delfines and its famous lookout sit just up the boulevard, and lively Playa Fórum is a short drive the other way if you want a second backdrop.
-
We meet you at the beach access
No resort access needed. We meet you at an easy public spot by the Ballenas beach entrance near the hotel and walk onto the sand together.
Finding Us at Km 14: Retorno del Rey
Sandos Cancun sits at Retorno del Rey, Blvd. Kukulcán km 14 in the Zona Hotelera — roughly the midpoint of Cancun’s hotel zone and about 20 minutes by car from Cancun International Airport (CUN). We don’t shoot inside the resort; instead we meet you at the public beach access beside Playa Ballenas, a short walk from the hotel entrance, and step onto the sand from there. It is the simplest possible logistics — no taxis mid-session, nothing to arrange beyond telling us your date.
If you would like more than one backdrop, you are well placed. Playa Delfines (km 18), home to the postcard CANCUN sign and its clifftop lookout, is about 7–10 minutes north by car. Playa Fórum (km 9), in the busier heart of the zone, is about 10–12 minutes the other way. Most couples happily stay put on the wide Ballenas sand in front of Sandos — but the options are there if you want them.
Sunrise Calm or Golden-Hour Glow
The Ballenas beach faces east, so sunrise is a quiet marvel here: soft golden light, an almost empty shoreline, and the whole wide beach to yourselves before the zone wakes up. Golden hour — the hour before sunset — is the other classic, warm and flattering, and it pairs naturally with a walk before dinner. Tell us your dates and we’ll recommend the exact window for your session.
Pricing is refreshingly simple. There is no session fee — you pay $15 USD per photo with a 10-photo minimum ($150 USD), or choose a group package from $200 USD if a few friends or family are joining the celebration. You only pay for the images you love. You can see recent work, and how we direct couples who aren’t used to a camera, on our Cancun photographer page.
Want to add a little drama to your celebration? Ask about our signature beach-gown editorial sessions at Sandos Cancun — meters of flowing fabric caught in the sea breeze, made for a bolder set of frames.

Couples & Babymoon Sessions at Sandos Cancun — FAQ
Do we need to be Sandos Cancun guests to book a session?
No. We photograph on the public Playa Ballenas beach in front of the resort, and we meet you at the public beach access near the hotel entrance — no resort access required. Guests and non-guests book with us exactly the same way.
Is the beach at Sandos comfortable for a babymoon session?
Yes. The Ballenas shoreline is one of the widest and flattest in the hotel zone, with easy footing and short walks, so it is genuinely comfortable for expecting couples. We shoot gently, at your tempo, with plenty of pauses to rest.
How much does a couples or babymoon session near Sandos cost?
There is no session fee. You pay $15 USD per photo with a 10-photo minimum ($150 USD), or choose a group package from $200 USD if family or friends join. You only pay for the images you love.
What is the best time of day for photos on the Ballenas beach?
The beach faces east, so sunrise brings soft light and an almost empty shoreline. Golden hour, the hour before sunset, is warm and flattering and pairs well with a pre-dinner walk. We'll suggest the exact window for your date.
Can we shoot at more than one beach in the session?
Absolutely. Most couples stay on the wide sand in front of Sandos at km 14, but Playa Delfines (km 18) is about 7–10 minutes away and Playa Fórum (km 9) about 10–12 minutes, if you would like a second backdrop within the hour.
