Family, group and vacation sessions for guests settling in for a whole week — booked mid-trip, unhurried, on the central hotel-zone beach at km 12.5.

Westin Lagunamar Cancún

The Resort Where Nobody Is in a Hurry

The Westin Lagunamar is built for the long stay. Its one- and two-bedroom villas come with full kitchens and living rooms — the layout of a home, not a hotel room — which is exactly why families and multi-generational groups book it for a whole week rather than a long weekend. And that one difference quietly changes everything about how they photograph the trip.

The couples who land for three nights book their session for day one, before the jet lag lifts. The families who settle into a Lagunamar villa do the opposite: they wait. They let the grandparents arrive, the toddlers find their beach rhythm, the teenagers thaw. Then, sometime mid-week — once everyone is finally in the same place and the tans have started — they message us. After thousands of sessions across Cancún, we have learned that the unhurried booking is almost always the best one, and this is the resort that produces it.

Why the Best Photos Happen on Day Four, Not Day One

There is a version of every family that only appears halfway through the vacation. By day four at the Westin Lagunamar, nobody is performing “holiday” for the camera anymore. The kids have found their favorite patch of sand, the adults have stopped checking their phones, and the whole group has fallen into the same slow rhythm. That is the family we love to photograph — relaxed, sun-warmed, genuinely together — and a week-long villa stay is what makes it possible. We have shot guests who booked the morning they landed and guests who waited until Thursday, and the Thursday sessions almost always feel more like the people in them.

The villa layout is part of it, too. When three generations share one suite with a kitchen and a living room, the trip is less about resort amenities and more about being under one roof — cooking breakfast together, arguing over the coffee, all of it. A photo session becomes the natural way to mark a week that everyone traveled a long way to share.

The Whole Crew, Grandparents Included

Lagunamar villas comfortably sleep the kind of group that rarely gets a good photo together: parents, kids, and the grandparents who flew in for the occasion. When we shoot a family here, it is seldom just mom, dad and two children — it is a reunion, and the beach right in front of the resort gives everyone room to spread out without wrangling strangers out of the background. We plan the pace around the youngest and the oldest in the group, because a portrait that has all three generations actually looking at the camera is worth the extra ten minutes. If you are traveling with the whole clan, our guide to family photo sessions in Cancún walks through outfits, timing and keeping small kids happy on the sand.

When the Group Is Ten Strong

Some of our favorite Lagunamar bookings are not families at all — they are friends who rented adjoining villas for a milestone birthday, a reunion, a girls-trip that has become an annual tradition. Big groups are their own kind of choreography: we mix full-group shots with smaller clusters and candid pairs so nobody is stuck standing in a line for an hour. Because the resort is quieter than the all-inclusives around it, a party of ten does not have to fight for a clean stretch of beach. Our group photoshoot guide for Cancún covers how we organize larger sessions so every face gets its moment.

The Vacation You Will Actually Remember

And plenty of guests book with no occasion at all — they simply want the week documented before it evaporates. No milestone, no announcement, just an hour of the trip as it really felt: the walk to the water, the in-jokes, the light at the end of the day. These lifestyle sessions are some of the most honest work we do, and a longer stay means we can pick the exact evening the weather cooperates. If that is what you are after, our vacation photoshoot guide for Cancún shows how a relaxed session fits into a week by the sea.

Why It Works Here

A Central Beach You Can Walk To in Flip-Flops

The Westin Lagunamar sits dead center in the hotel zone, on a wide, calm stretch of sand that is easy on grandparents, strollers and everyone in between.

  1. A short, barefoot walk to the sand

At km 12.5 the beach is right there — no taxis, no logistics. Guests stroll down from the villas in minutes, which matters when you are moving with kids, grandparents and a stack of snacks.

  2. A wide, gentle stretch by Chac Mool

The sand next to the Chac Mool beach area is broad and the water calm, so small children can wade and older relatives can stand comfortably while we work the frame.

  3. Quieter than the all-inclusive crowd

The Lagunamar draws the settle-in-for-a-week traveler rather than the party set, which means fewer strangers wandering through your group shots.

  4. Built around your slowest and youngest

We set the pace for the toddler and the grandparent, not the other way around — and a central location means short walks between every backdrop.

Everything a Few Minutes Away: Km 12.5

The Westin Lagunamar Ocean Resort Villas & Spa stands at Blvd. Kukulcán km 12.5, Lt 18, right in the middle of Cancún’s hotel zone, next to the Chac Mool beach area and a short hop from Plaza Kukulcán. It is one of the easiest resorts in the zone to reach — about 25 minutes by car from Cancún International Airport (CUN) — and its central position is a gift for a photo session, because every backdrop we might want is close by. We meet your group at an easy public beach access near the resort entrance, and the session itself happens on the public sand right in front of the hotel.

Want a change of scenery without a long drive? Playa Delfines (km 18), with its famous CANCÚN sign and lookout, is about 10–12 minutes south by car, and the livelier Playa Fórum (km 9), in the heart of the zone, is only about 6–8 minutes north. Most groups stay on the beach in front of the Lagunamar — with a week to play with, there is rarely a reason to chase a backdrop when the light out front is already this good.

Timing a Session Around a Week-Long Stay

The luxury of a longer trip is that we can wait for the right morning. Sunrise on this central beach is soft, empty and beautiful, and it is our favorite window for big groups — the sand is uncrowded and even restless kids are calm. Golden hour, the hour before sunset, is the other classic: warm light and a natural excuse for one last walk to the water before dinner. Tell us which days you are in town and we will pick the exact slot that suits the ages in your group and the week’s weather.

Pricing is refreshingly simple: there is no session fee — it is $15 USD per photo with a 10-photo minimum ($150 USD), or a group package from $200 USD, which is the natural fit when three generations or a party of ten all want copies. You only pay for the images you love. You can see how we work — and hundreds of recent families and groups — on our Cancún photographer page.

Good to Know

Family & Group Sessions at the Westin Lagunamar — FAQ

We are staying a full week — when in the trip should we book the session?

Mid-trip is the sweet spot. Once everyone has arrived, the jet lag has lifted and the kids have settled into a beach rhythm, the group photographs far more naturally. We usually suggest days three through five of a week-long stay, and with a longer trip we can pick the exact morning the weather looks best.

Can you photograph a big multi-generational group?

Absolutely — it is one of the things the Lagunamar is best for. We mix full-group shots with smaller clusters and candid pairs so grandparents, parents and kids each get their moment, and we set the pace around the youngest and oldest in the group rather than rushing anyone.

How much does a photo session near the Westin Lagunamar cost?

There is no session fee. It is $15 USD per photo with a 10-photo minimum ($150 USD), or a group package from $200 USD — which is usually the better value when a large family or a party of ten all want copies of the images.

Do you come to the resort, or where exactly do we meet?

We meet your group at an easy public beach access near the resort entrance and shoot on the public sand right in front of the hotel at km 12.5. You do not need to arrange anything inside the property — just tell us your villa area and we will pick a simple meeting spot.

Is the beach easy for grandparents and small kids?

Yes. The stretch in front of the Lagunamar, next to the Chac Mool beach area, is wide and flat with calm water, and the resort sits centrally at km 12.5 so walks between backdrops are short. It is one of the more comfortable beaches in the zone for a mixed-age group.
