Anniversaries, honeymoons and just-the-two-of-you portraits on the calm, wide north-end beach — planned by WhatsApp, shot at sunrise.

Riu Palace Peninsula Cancún

The Quiet End of the Strip, All to Yourselves

Riu Palace Peninsula sits near the top of Cancún’s hotel zone, at about Blvd. Kukulcán km 5.5 — the calm, adults-only end of the strip, where the sand runs wider and the water turns gentle on the Bahía de Mujeres side of Punta Cancún. Couples who book this hotel usually did it on purpose. They wanted the quiet Riu, not the party towers a few minutes south, and it shows in the photos they ask us for: unhurried, close, just the two of them.

That is exactly the session we love to shoot here. We have photographed thousands of couples across Cancún, and this north-end beach gives us something the busier stretches simply cannot — space. We meet you at the public beach access a couple of minutes from the hotel, with no resort passes or logistics involved, and spend a slow hour making portraits that look the way your trip actually felt: the wide sand behind you, the softer bay light on your faces, the strip’s energy close enough to reach but far enough to forget.

Why the North End

A Wider, Calmer Beach That Frames Like a Private Cove

The stretch of sand below Riu Palace Peninsula, up near the Punta Cancún bend, is one of the roomiest and most sheltered in the whole hotel zone — and it photographs exactly that way.

  1. Bay-side calm, not open surf

This end faces the sheltered Bahía de Mujeres rather than the open Caribbean, so the water sits calmer and flatter — a serene backdrop instead of crashing waves fighting for attention in your frames.

  2. Room to breathe in every frame

The north-end sand is unusually wide, which means clean, uncluttered backgrounds. Even in high season we find open space here that the tighter beaches down around km 9 rarely offer.

  3. An east-facing shore made for sunrise

Like most of the zone, this beach faces east, so first light comes up warm and low across the water — the softest, most flattering hour of the whole day for couples portraits.

  4. Gently directed, never posed stiff

Most of our clients have never modeled, and it does not matter. We direct the small things — a hand, a lean, where to look — so the two of you just relax into the morning.

Why Couples Choose the Calm Over the Crowd

There is a reason the north end of Kukulcán feels different from the rest of the zone. This is the original, northern arm of the strip — the km 5-to-9 stretch that runs before the boulevard bends east — and it has always been the mellower half. Below km 5.5, the beach belongs to a quieter cluster of adults-only resorts, and the shoreline curves toward Punta Cancún, the elbow where the open Caribbean gives way to the sheltered Bahía de Mujeres. The practical upshot for a photo session is simple: fewer people, softer water, wider sand. When you have flown a long way to be alone together, that calm is the entire point, and it reads in every frame. Our full couples photoshoot guide for Cancún shows how we plan the outfits, timing and easy poses that make an hour on this beach feel like ten minutes.

Anniversaries and Honeymoons, Unhurried

So many of the couples staying here are marking something — a honeymoon that finally happened, a fifth or a fiftieth anniversary, a trip they promised themselves for years. The pace we keep suits that mood: no rushing, no big production, just the two of you and the water. If you are celebrating a milestone, our anniversary session guide covers the small touches — a favourite outfit, a toast on the sand, a letter read aloud at golden hour — that turn a portrait into a keepsake.

A Calm Beach for a Babymoon, Too

The same wide, gentle sand that suits couples is ideal for a babymoon. There are no crowds to weave through and no long trek from the beach access, so an expecting mom can take it slow. We keep the movement minimal and the light soft, and our maternity and babymoon photoshoot guide walks through what to wear and the most comfortable times of day to shoot on the north-end beach.

Getting Your Bearings: Km 5.5 and the Bend at Punta Cancún

Riu Palace Peninsula stands at about Blvd. Kukulcán km 5.5, on the northern arm of the hotel zone as it climbs toward Punta Cancún. From Cancún International Airport (CUN) it is roughly a 25–30 minute drive, one of the shorter airport transfers on the strip. The bay-facing water here is calm enough for a barefoot wade at the shoreline, which is part of why this end draws couples who simply want to slow down. We meet you at the public beach access closest to the hotel — an easy, well-marked spot a couple of minutes from the entrance — so there is nothing to arrange with the resort and no confusion about where to find us.

Want to range a little farther for variety? Playa Fórum (km 9), in the livelier heart of the zone, is only about a 5–8 minute drive south, and the famous Playa Delfines lookout (km 18), with its wide-angle view over the whole coast, sits roughly 20 minutes down the boulevard. Most couples staying at Riu Palace Peninsula never bother, though — the beach right in front of the hotel gives us everything a portrait needs, and the shorter the walk, the more of your morning stays yours.

The Best Hour to Shoot on the North End

Sunrise is our first recommendation here. The beach faces east, so the earliest light comes in warm and directional, the sand is empty, and the water is at its calmest before the day’s breeze picks up. Golden hour before sunset is the runner-up — a touch busier, but with the same soft glow and the easy excuse of a walk before dinner. Tell us your dates and we will pin the exact window for your session.

Pricing is refreshingly simple, with nothing to puzzle over on your holiday. There is no session fee — you pay $15 USD per photo with a 10-photo minimum ($150 USD), or choose a group package from $200 USD if a few friends or family want to join. You only pay for the images you love, and there is never any pressure to buy more than the ten you came for. You can see how we work — and hundreds of recent couples — on our Cancún photographer page.

Want something with more drama on the same sand? Ask about our signature beach-gown editorial sessions at Riu Palace Peninsula — metres of flowing fabric caught in the sea breeze, made for a bolder, fashion-shoot mood.

Good to Know

Couples Sessions at Riu Palace Peninsula — FAQ

We chose Riu Palace Peninsula because it is quiet — will our photos feel that calm too?

That is exactly what this location gives you. The north-end beach at km 5.5 faces the sheltered Bahía de Mujeres, so the water is calm and the sand is wide and open. We shoot away from the busier crowds, keep the pace slow, and the stillness of this end of the zone comes right through in the images.

Where do we meet, and do we need to arrange anything with the resort?

Nothing to arrange. We meet you at the public beach access a couple of minutes from the Riu Palace Peninsula entrance and shoot on the public sand in front of and around the hotel. You do not need resort passes or special permission — just tell us your date and we will confirm the exact meeting spot.

How much does a couples session near Riu Palace Peninsula cost?

There is no session fee. You pay $15 USD per photo with a 10-photo minimum ($150 USD), or choose a group package from $200 USD if friends or family are joining. You only pay for the photos you actually want to keep.

We want the calm but also a little of Cancún’s energy — can we have both?

Easily. We can start at sunrise on the quiet north-end beach right by the hotel, then, if you like, drive a few minutes south to livelier stretches such as Playa Fórum at km 9 for a different backdrop. Playa Fórum is only about 5–8 minutes away, so you get the calm and the colour in one session.

What time of day works best on the north-end beach?

Sunrise, without question. The beach faces east, so first light is warm, soft and flattering, the sand is empty, and the water is glassy before the wind picks up. If mornings are impossible, golden hour before sunset is the next best window, and we will recommend the exact time for your dates.
