Dreams Playa Mujeres

Twenty People, One Booking: Every Occasion We Shoot at Dreams Playa Mujeres, Free to Reserve

Most reservations here arrive with a number attached: fifteen, eighteen, twenty-two people who blocked the same week a year in advance. Grandparents, cousins nobody has seen in years, a baby who was not born the last time they all gathered. But the full-group frame only fills the first hour. Quinceañera portraits, the dress flown down in a suitcase of its own. Children young enough that the session runs on their schedule, not ours. Milestone birthdays — the sixtieth, the eightieth — with the whole table in on it. Couples who slipped away while the grandparents took over. Surprise proposals planned by message for weeks. Maternity and babymoon sessions at whatever pace the morning allows. Reunions of friends whose calendars finally lined up. And solo portraits for the aunt nobody ever photographs.

Dreams is the brand a family books when the party is too large for one room and too mixed for an adults-only property: teenagers, toddlers and grandparents on a single reservation, in connecting suites along one corridor. The Dreams Playa Mujeres photographer they end up hiring has to keep twenty people moving and still never lose the two-year-old. With thousands of sessions behind us across Cancun, the planning happens on WhatsApp long before you land: which morning, what time, and the full list of who has to stand next to whom. Putting your name on that morning costs nothing. Prices, from one photo to a full package, are on our Cancun photographer page. Not sure yet how many of you there will be? Write to us anyway — the number can change later.

The Setting

A Beach With Enough Depth for a Crowd

Why group photographs work on this particular stretch and struggle on most others.

  1. Depth, not just width

Group frames need distance between the camera and the people. This beach is deep from the water to the treeline, so we can step back rather than crop somebody out.

  2. Calm water for the little ones

The shoreline shelves gently, so the youngest can stand at the edge while we photograph the adults behind them.

  3. Clean horizon at sunrise

Facing east with no towers behind, the background stays open sky and sea — which is what keeps a twenty-person frame from looking busy.

  4. Space to split the group

After the full-group shots we break into smaller combinations, and there is room to do that without everyone standing around in the background.

The Sessions Groups Here Book Most

People come to this resort in numbers, and the photographs they want reflect that.

Extended families

Three generations, several households, one week that took a year to coordinate. We shoot the full group first — always first, while the children are fresh — then work through the combinations: each family, the siblings, the grandparents with the grandchildren. See our family photoshoot guide for Cancún for how to coordinate what everyone wears.

Reunions and milestone trips

Friends who have not been in the same country for years, or a birthday that justified flying everyone out. We choreograph large group photoshoots so they do not end up looking like a school photograph: one wide frame that includes everybody, then quick rotations that keep the energy up.

Celebrations

Birthdays, milestone anniversaries, a graduation. Bring whatever the occasion needs and we will build the session around it.

Where the Resort Sits — and Why the Beach Is So Wide

Dreams Playa Mujeres is inside the gated Playa Mujeres community on the coast north of Cancún, across the channel from Isla Mujeres, about thirty minutes from downtown and roughly forty from the airport. The area includes a marina and a golf course, and because it was developed late and kept low, the beach never got squeezed between towers the way the hotel zone did.

That is the whole reason group photography works here. Width gives you room to line people up; depth gives us room to step back far enough to fit them all in without distortion. Most beaches near Cancún have one or the other.

How a Session Works With a Large Group

We come to you, with no travel fee to Playa Mujeres, and meet at a public beach access a short walk from the resort — Mexican beaches are federal public property with open access, so a resort's vendor policy does not affect whether we can photograph the shoreline. For a group of fifteen or more we usually suggest a little extra time; tell us the headcount and we will give you a realistic number.

Sunrise is strongly preferable with big groups. The light is soft, the beach is empty, and — the practical part — people are more willing to stand in the sun for twenty minutes at seven in the morning than at five in the afternoon.

What a Session Here Costs

No session fee applies. It is $15 USD per photo with a 10-photo minimum ($150 USD), or a package from $200 USD. With several households in the group a package is nearly always the sensible choice — splitting a minimum across four families rarely goes well. All options are listed on our Cancún photographer page.

Is the trip built around a ceremony? Our Dreams Playa Mujeres wedding photographer guide covers ceremony coverage on this coast.

Good to Know

Photo Sessions at Dreams Playa Mujeres — FAQ

Can you photograph a group of fifteen or twenty people?

Yes, and this is one of the better beaches near Cancún for it. The sand is wide and deep enough to fit a large group in a single frame with open background behind them. We shoot the full group first, then break into smaller combinations.

Do you come out here? Is there a travel fee?

Yes, and there is no travel fee to Playa Mujeres or Costa Mujeres. We meet at a public beach access a short walk from the resort.

How long does a big group session take?

Plan on a bit more than the usual hour — with fifteen or more people the combinations take time. Tell us the headcount when you write and we will give you an honest estimate.

How much does it cost for a large family?

There is no session fee: $15 USD per photo with a 10-photo minimum ($150 USD), or a package from $200 USD. With several households a package is almost always better value, since each family tends to want its own set of images.

What time of day works best?

Sunrise. Soft light, empty sand, and cooler temperatures — which matters a lot when you are asking twenty people to stand on a beach.
