Your Wedding Day Is a Route, and These Are the Three We Draw Most

Nothing here happens in one place. A wedding at Mirabel starts in a suite, crosses a terrace, ends under a ceiling, and the interesting decision is the order. These are the three shapes couples ask us to draw, each with a guide of its own:

A Full Wedding, Door to Door

Getting ready, the first look, the ceremony outside, cocktails in the foyer, the reception in the ballroom and whatever the music lounge turns into afterwards, with one or two photographers depending on how many of you there are. An Elopement, or a Wedding of Twenty

Picking the Rooms Your Wedding Night Passes Through

Secrets Mirabel Cancun Resort & Spa opened in November 2025 on the Cancún strip, with the Caribbean on one side and calm water on the other. Inside there are eight restaurants, six bars and lounges, six pools, a wine cellar and an agave cellar, and a ballroom with its own pre-function foyer. That is far more than any single night needs, which is the point: you are not stuck with the one room the resort has free.

So we spend part of the conversation choosing. Where does the ceremony sit relative to the sun that afternoon. Does the cocktail hour want the foyer or open air. Does dinner go indoors and the dancing outdoors, or the other way round. Which two spaces are close enough that nobody loses momentum between them. We write that route down, share it with the resort’s coordinator, and shoot to it — and we still leave room to abandon it when something better happens.

When the Ceremony Should Begin at Secrets Mirabel

Golden hour is the hour on either side of sunset, when the light stops being overhead and starts being kind. Almost everything you imagined when you pictured this day lives inside it. As a working rule we set the ceremony about two hours before sundown: that leaves vows, family groupings and a proper portrait session on the sand all inside the good light, with the reception starting as it fades.

The trap is that sundown is not a fixed time. It slides by close to an hour and a half between the winter and the summer, so an hour that finishes in gold in January finishes in the dark in June. The Weddings That Do Not Look Like the Brochure

Plenty of what we shoot at adults-only resorts is not the standard sequence. A same-sex couple who want the day photographed as the day, without a template built for somebody else — our LGBTQ+ wedding guide is about that. The Vendor Question, Asked Early and in Writing

Ask the resort early how it handles an outside wedding photographer, and ask by email so you have the reply. Properties at this level generally charge a photographer fee or ask that your photographer enter on a paid day pass; both are ordinary, and both are cheaper to discover in month one than in month eleven. Symbolic on the Sand, Legal on Paper, or Both

This one decides your clock, so decide it early. A civil marriage in Mexico brings documents, witnesses and a stricter hour; many couples sign at home and hold a symbolic ceremony here instead, which through the lens is indistinguishable and gives the afternoon back to you. Some do both, a week apart, and treat the day at Mirabel as the one that counted.
