Room for a Wedding Guest List That Runs Long

The thing that sells this resort to a couple with a big family is the same thing that makes it a joy to shoot: space. The stretch of sand in front of the Cancún Marriott is one of the broadest, calmest strips in the area, so a wedding of sixty or eighty guests never has to bunch up for a photo. We can back up thirty steps down the beach for a full-group portrait with clean sand on either side, then close in for the couple without a single stray sunbather wandering into frame. On a narrow beach that is a constant fight; here it is a non-issue.

Because it is an all-inclusive, the whole celebration lives on one property. Guests roll from the ceremony to the terrace to the pool bar without hunting for taxis, and the resort's water park keeps the youngest cousins happily occupied in the gap between the vows and the reception — which, from where we stand, means the kids are burning energy elsewhere while we work the golden-hour portraits, and arrive back for the party genuinely delighted rather than melting down.

When Three Generations Travel Together

A lot of the weddings we shoot at the Marriott are really reunions with a ceremony attached — the first time in years that grandparents, parents, siblings and a scatter of grandchildren are all under one roof. Those are our favourite groups to organise on the sand. We start with the big combined portrait while everyone is fresh and the light is still high, then break it down fast: the couple with each set of parents, the grandparents with the grandkids, the college crew, the siblings. The Casual Wedding Counterpart to the JW Next Door

It helps to know exactly where the Cancún Marriott sits in the pecking order of this stretch of coast. It shares its beachfront with the far more formal JW Marriott directly beside it — five-star polish, a slower morning-of routine built around the spa and the bridal suite — while this resort is its more relaxed, family-minded sibling: wide gardens, an easy pace, nobody worrying about a dress code for the kids. The grand Kempinski, a short walk up the same shore, brings a third note again, all marble corridors and European formality; the newer, design-forward Sandos sits closer to the Marriott's own register but trades the gardens for a contemporary look. That neighbourhood is a quiet advantage: if a few guests want to splurge on the JW or the Kempinski while the wedding block stays at the friendlier Marriott, everyone still spills onto the same stretch of sand for the ceremony. You get the unfussy, family-first wedding with five-star scenery a hundred metres in either direction.

Getting the Wedding Party to Km 14.5

The Cancún Marriott Resort stands at Blvd. Kukulcán km 14.5, Retorno Chac L-41, about halfway down the hotel zone — a straightforward 20-to-25-minute drive from Cancún International Airport, which counts when guests are landing from a spread of U.S. cities across one weekend. That central footing also unlocks backdrops past the resort sand: the giant CANCÚN letters at Playa Delfines sit near km 18, roughly ten minutes south, while the busier Playa Fórum is up around km 9, a similar hop north. For most weddings the sand out front does the job, but the option is there if you fancy a change of scene mid-session.

The One Wedding Vendor Question to Settle First

Here is the conversation to have before you fall for any photographer: like nearly every beachfront resort, the Marriott runs an outside-vendor policy, which usually lands as either a vendor fee or your photographer entering as a registered day guest. Neither is unusual and neither should scare you off — you simply want the current terms in writing from the coordinator, early. Timing the Wedding Vows to the Light

Facing the sunrise, the honest golden window falls in the hour before sunset — that low, warm wash that sets the sand glowing and flatters every face — so we generally start the ceremony roughly two hours ahead of sundown, which banks enough time for the vows, the sprawling family photos and a full couple's session before the light fades.
