Between an elopement and a full production
Somewhere between the two of you alone and a hundred and fifty guests sits the version most couples actually want: ten to forty people who matter, one long table, a ceremony that takes twenty minutes, and a dinner that runs late because nobody has to be herded anywhere. It is not a small wedding in the sense of being a lesser one. It is a different event with different needs, and it photographs completely differently.
The difference that matters to us is arithmetic. At a hundred and fifty guests a photographer spends the day covering a crowd: you get wide shots of tables and a handful of faces. At twenty-five, every single person who flew in gets photographed properly — with you, with each other, in good light. That is why couples who choose this end up with galleries they still scroll through years later. If you are weighing it against a larger celebration, all the collections live on our Cancun wedding photographer page.
What changes at twenty-five guests
Every guest gets covered
Twenty-five people is twenty-five sets of photographs. At a large wedding the same hours produce crowd shots and a few portraits — nobody flew across a continent to appear as a blur behind you.
Six to eight hours, not twelve
No processional to stage, no thirty-table dinner service, no hour of formal groups. The day is shorter, so the coverage is shorter and the quote is smaller — without anything being cut.
Venues a hundred people cannot use
Restaurant buyouts, private villas, rooftop terraces, a boutique resort’s best corner. The most beautiful spaces in Cancún seat forty, not two hundred.
Golden hour without a negotiation
With a small group we can simply take you away for twenty minutes at the best light of the day. At a large wedding that becomes a scheduling argument with three vendors.
Three Cancún settings built for a small wedding
Below about forty guests you stop needing a ballroom, which opens up the places a big wedding cannot book.
-
A boutique or adults-only resort
NIZUC, Le Blanc, Secrets The Vine and similar properties have terraces, gardens and private beach corners that work perfectly for twenty to forty people and would be absurd for two hundred. Smaller minimum spends too, and the coordinator can actually focus on your day.
-
A restaurant or beach-club buyout
For a list under thirty, buying out a good restaurant for an evening is often cheaper than a resort package and the food is far better. The ceremony happens on the public beach beforehand at golden hour, and dinner is indoors with no wind and no sand.
-
A private villa in the Hotel Zone or Playa Mujeres
A house for the weekend with a pool, a terrace and everyone staying together. It produces the best getting-ready photographs of any format, because the whole morning happens in one place with the people you chose.
We will confirm access, fees and the exact hour for your date before you commit to anything.
The Portfolio
Real weddings we photographed in Cancún
Couples who said yes with us along this coast. Not every frame is from a Intimate Wedding — we would rather show you honest work from the same beaches, the same light and the same team.
How a twenty-five-guest day actually runs
The shape is simple, and the simplicity is the point: getting ready together somewhere pleasant, a ceremony about ninety minutes before sunset, twenty minutes of portraits while everyone else has a drink, then dinner. No cocktail hour to fill, no timeline to defend, no announcement schedule. Six to eight hours of coverage takes it from the first details to well into dinner, and one photographer is usually enough — a second becomes worth it only when there are two simultaneous getting-ready locations.
The part couples underestimate is the group photograph. With twenty-five people it takes four minutes and everyone is recognisable. With a hundred and fifty it takes forty minutes, needs a riser, and produces an image where your aunt is nine pixels tall. If having a photograph of literally everyone who came matters to you, the guest list is the variable that decides whether that is possible.
Minimum spends, vendor fees and what to ask early
Small weddings hit a specific commercial obstacle: resorts price weddings as packages with minimum guest counts or minimum spends, and below that threshold the per-person cost climbs sharply. That is worth knowing before you fall in love with a property. Ask three questions early — the minimum spend for a private event, whether a ceremony-only booking is allowed, and whether an outside photographer triggers a vendor fee or a day pass. Our page on resort vendor fees covers the last one in detail.
The alternative, and a good one under thirty guests, is to keep the ceremony on a public beach — Mexican shoreline below the high-tide line is federal, so a small ceremony with no structures needs no permit at all — and put the money into a private dinner somewhere with a real kitchen. On the paperwork, most international couples marry legally at home and hold a symbolic ceremony here; our legal versus symbolic guide explains what each route asks of you.
Light, weather, and the advantage of being small
Cancún holds UTC−5 all year, so sunset falls between 18:15 and 19:25. On the east-facing Hotel Zone beaches the useful window is the last ninety minutes of daylight: start the ceremony there and portraits land in the best light of the day. Midday ceremonies photograph badly and are hard on guests; if that is your only option we shoot in shade rather than on open sand.
Where a small wedding wins outright is when something changes. Sargassum is heaviest April to August and hits east-facing beaches hardest — moving twenty-five people to the resort’s garden or to the north-bay beaches takes one phone call. A twenty-minute squall between June and October is an inconvenience rather than a crisis, because forty people fit under a terrace and a hundred and fifty do not. Read the month-by-month guide before choosing a week, and the rain backup guide for what a good plan B looks like.
Coverage sized to the day, not to a package
Six to eight hours, typically
Details and getting ready, the ceremony, portraits at golden hour, and dinner. Longer only if there is a genuine reason, not because a package says so.
Every guest, individually
The thing this format makes possible. Each person who travelled gets real photographs, not a background appearance.
One long table, properly shot
Dinner is the heart of an intimate wedding. Toasts, reactions, the moment someone cries — that is where the gallery earns its keep.
Drone and video on request
An aerial of twenty-five people around a table on a beach is a better photograph than the same frame with two hundred. Video is quoted separately.
How It Works
From your first message to your date being held
Four steps, and none of them is a price list. We would rather understand your day first.
-
Step one
You tell us the basics
Date, or the month you are aiming at, and roughly what you are picturing. Two lines is enough to start.
-
Step two
A brief planning call
Fifteen or twenty minutes with the photographer who would actually shoot it — the hour, the location, the light, what matters to you.
-
Step three
A quote written for your day
Coverage, hours, whether video or drone is worth it, and any fees we already know about. No package you have to squeeze into.
-
Step four
20 % holds the date
A deposit reserves your date and your team. The balance is due before the day, and every edited photo is included.

Intimate Wedding in Cancún — the questions couples actually ask
How many guests is an intimate wedding?
Roughly ten to forty. Below ten the day starts behaving like an elopement and our elopement page is the better read. Above about fifty you need a proper venue, a defended timeline and usually two photographers, which is the full-wedding format on our pillar page.
How much does it cost compared with a full wedding?
Less, because the day is shorter and often needs one photographer rather than two — but we quote rather than publish a rate, because a villa weekend and a restaurant buyout produce very different days. Tell us the guest count and the date, we set up a short planning call, and you get a written quote. A 20 % deposit holds the date.
Will a resort let us hold a wedding this small?
Usually, but ask about the minimum spend for a private event early. Resorts price weddings in packages with guest-count thresholds, and below them the per-person cost climbs. Boutique and adults-only properties tend to be far more comfortable with twenty-five people than the big all-inclusives.
Do we need a venue at all?
Not for the ceremony. A small ceremony with no structures on a public beach needs no permit — the shoreline is federal. Plenty of couples marry on the sand at golden hour and then walk to a private dinner. That is often the best value in this format and it photographs beautifully.
How long should the coverage be?
Six to eight hours covers almost every intimate wedding: getting ready, the ceremony, golden-hour portraits and a good part of dinner. We would rather talk through your actual day on a call than sell you twelve hours because that is what a wedding is supposed to need.
Is one photographer enough?
For twenty-five guests in one location, usually yes. A second earns their place when there are two simultaneous getting-ready rooms, or when you want the ceremony covered from two angles at once. We tell you honestly which applies rather than defaulting to two.
