Nine separate venues and very few guests in between them push a resort towards certain kinds of day. These are the three we are asked for here more than any others, and each one has its own guide.

A Full Wedding, One Address at a Time

Preparations, the first look, the ceremony, dinner somewhere else entirely and a dance floor somewhere else again — with a second photographer once the guest list passes a certain size, since an aisle and a room of waiting faces happen at the same moment in two places. Sixteen Chairs, or None at All

Avicenia takes about sixteen people and the Agave Deck around thirty, which is the size most couples mean by an intimate wedding. Below that there is the elopement: nobody but the two of you, an officiant if you want one, and portraits that run the whole evening because there is no schedule to keep. Vow Renewals, Ten and Twenty Years On

Nine Wedding Venues, and Not One of Them Overlaps

The estate keeps nine spaces for weddings, and the striking thing is how differently they photograph. The Beach is the open one, sea on one side and almost nothing on the other. Lagoon Lawn and Los Agaves Lawn are the green ones, each opening onto a garden rather than a corridor. La Ceiba Garden and Kitchen is the one people remember: lantern-lit trees, stone and timber, and a chef’s garden growing around the table. Casa del Lago’s pool deck takes the largest evening on the property, with limestone and underwater light. Aquí Me Quedo is the adults-only pocket on the sand, Avicenia and the Agave Deck are the very small ones, and the Founder’s Villa comes with a stretch of beach that belongs to it alone. What So Few Doors Along So Much Sand Does to a Wedding Album

Rosewood puts its own numbers on the record: a mile-long arc of beach, a hundred and twenty-nine suites, seven villas, and a spa on an island of its own. Set that against a coast where a single resort routinely holds a thousand rooms, and the difference stops being a marketing line and becomes a working condition. Nothing in your gallery has to be composed defensively. The ceremony aisle is not a corridor other guests are crossing. The portrait hour is not a negotiation with sunbathers. There is no second wedding two lawns down whose music you can hear on the video.

What that buys you is not privacy in the abstract but takes: more of them, wider, and further apart. When we do not have to wait for a frame to clear, we can move you three times in the time it usually takes to get one clean shot, and the album ends up with variety in it rather than one backdrop shot from six angles. It is also the reason a small guest list never looks lost here — the spaces were built to hold a modest number of people well, not a large number cheaply.

Sunset, a Ceiba Tree and the Hour Your Ceremony Opens

The sun comes up out of the sea on this coast and goes down behind the jungle, so the estate gets two unrelated kinds of light instead of one long slide into gold. The garden and the lawns are the complicated half: dense planting breaks the sun into patches that are unforgiving at noon and lovely once it is low enough to come in sideways. The sand is the straightforward half. We generally build the ceremony to open about two hours before sundown, which leaves the vows, the family groups and an unhurried portrait set inside the colour.

Your date does the rest of the arithmetic. Sundown shifts by roughly ninety minutes between December and June, so an hour that finishes in gold in one month finishes in the dark in another; we anchor your timeline to the real sunset for your day. And if one evening was never going to be enough, the morning after is quieter still and the dress is already ruined. A trash-the-dress or day-after session puts the two of you back on the sand with no ceremony to keep and nobody to gather.

Ask the Wedding Office About the Photographer Fee Early

Resorts in this bracket charge an outside photographer a fee, and what it comes to depends on the property and on the package you book. Ask for the figure in writing in the first month, while there is still room to plan around it — it belongs in the budget next to the flowers, and the couples who raise it early never think about it again. Sign the Papers at Home, Say the Vows Under the Tree

A civil marriage in Mexico is legal, straightforward and slower: witnesses, documents and a tighter clock on the day itself. Plenty of couples sign at home instead and hold a symbolic ceremony here, which loosens the schedule and looks identical through a lens. Decide it before we draft your timeline, because it governs how early the first guest has to be seated.
