The single most photogenic thing you can do on this beach is marry early. Because the shoreline faces due east, dawn is not just flattering light — it is the difference between a private ceremony and a shared one. Where Your Riviera Maya Wedding Quietly Begins

Part of the appeal is pure geography. The Waldorf Astoria Cancún sits on Bahía Petempich along the Cancún–Puerto Morelos corridor of Carretera Federal 307 — the very first stretch of coast the Riviera Maya claims as its own, just south of Cancún International Airport (CUN). From arrivals it is only about a twenty to twenty-five minute drive, which is a genuine gift for a destination wedding: guests fly in, clear customs, and can be on the sand the same morning, yet they are far enough from the hotel zone that the beach still feels like a private one. The old fishing town of Puerto Morelos, with its sleepy main square and its famously leaning lighthouse, is just a few minutes further south for a rehearsal dinner or a slow welcome-day stroll.

We do not photograph inside the resort or imply access to it — we meet you at a public beach access a couple of minutes away and shoot on the open sand in front of it, with soft, uncrowded light for every portrait. Coordinating all of this from home is simpler than it sounds, because everything you need lives on one shore. Our job is to translate the day into a timeline that protects the light: where the first look happens, how much buffer sits before the ceremony, and when we slip away with the two of you for portraits while the guests are pouring the first drink.

Where Your Wedding Guests Head for More Photos

Because the resort sits at the top of the Riviera Maya rather than deep in the hotel zone, the postcard Cancún backdrops are a short drive north whenever you want them. Playa Delfines, with its giant CANCÚN sign and the El Mirador overlook at the far south end of the hotel zone, is roughly twenty-five to thirty minutes north by car, and lively Playa Fórum near km 9 is about thirty-five minutes. Most couples who chose Petempich happily skip that drive — leaving the crowds behind was the entire point — but if you want one set of frames at the sign, we can build a two-location morning around the light.

One Practical Wedding Question Before the Romance Starts

Before the romance, one practical note. Like most luxury resorts, the Waldorf Astoria typically has an outside-vendor policy — usually a vendor fee, or a day-pass requirement, when you bring a photographer who is not on its in-house list. It is normal, and it should never decide your photographer for you, but you do want the number in writing well before your wedding morning.
