One Long Property, and a Wedding That Travels Across It

El Dorado Royale runs along its own stretch of Riviera Maya shoreline north of Playa del Carmen, an easy drive down the coast road from Cancún airport, with jungle and mangrove behind the casitas and the sea in front of them. Compact it is not, and that is precisely the point: the beach gazebos, the chapel and its terrace, the garden plazas and the ballroom are genuinely different corners of one estate rather than variations on a single lawn.

For your guests, everything still happens behind one gate — nobody drives anywhere, and the bar follows them from the ceremony to the dance floor. For us, the plan has to account for the distances inside the property: where the wedding party gets dressed, how long the walk to the sand really takes with a dress in hand, and which corner still has light left when the cocktail hour overruns.

Two Kinds of Wedding Light on One Estate

Golden hour — the soft, forgiving light in the hour either side of sunset — is where beach wedding photographs live, and on the open sand out front we generally build the ceremony to start roughly two hours before the sun goes down, which leaves room for vows, family groupings and an unhurried portrait set while the colour holds. Under the trees the maths inverts: the canopy is already dim by then, so a jungle or garden ceremony wants an earlier slot and lights we bring ourselves.

The seasonal wrinkle applies to both. Sunset shifts by close to an hour and a half between December and June, so a start time that lands in gold one month lands in the dark the next; we anchor every wedding timeline to the true sunset for your date. The Photographer You Chose, at the Venue You Chose

Ask the resort in writing, early, how it handles an outside wedding photographer. Properties in this bracket normally do one of two things — charge a photographer fee, or admit your team on a paid day pass — and both are routine paperwork rather than an obstacle; you simply want the terms agreed long before the morning of the wedding. The difference matters most at a resort with this many venues. A photographer who has never seen the Jungle Rock at five in the afternoon will light it like a lawn; the one you chose, whose full portfolio you have read end to end, arrives having already talked the venue through with you.

Legal or Symbolic: the Ceremony Decides Your Clock

One early call sets the tempo of everything else. A legal civil marriage in Mexico brings witnesses, documents and a stricter schedule; plenty of couples handle the legal part at home instead and hold a symbolic ceremony on the sand here that photographs identically and frees the afternoon. Settle it before we draft the wedding timeline, because it governs when the ceremony can begin.
