Five Ceremony Sites and the Order You Use Them In

The site slopes, and the hotel was designed to slope with it: three blocks arranged around the mangrove, joined by a roofed promenade that steps down from the entrance to the water. That geography is your running order. The Mangrove sits highest and inland, green and shaded, the ceremony site nobody else on this coast can offer. Citrus Patio is the open terrace next to it, the natural home for a cocktail hour or a small dinner. The Infinity Deck faces the Caribbean from above, which is where a rooftop ceremony or the golden-hour portraits go. Below all of it, the resort’s own sand. And when the light finally goes, the Devossion Ballroom and its foyers take the reception indoors without anyone leaving the property.

Practically, that means a wedding here does not need vehicles. Guests come down one covered route on foot, in the shade, from a ceremony under the canopy to a deck over the sea to a dance floor, and their rooms are above all three. It also means we can shoot four visibly different backgrounds in the same evening without asking anybody to change shoes.

The Hotel Changed Names, Your Wedding Plans Did Not

Some couples booked this building when the sign said Grand Hyatt. The building did not move: same architect, same rooms above the same mangrove, same sand, same stepped promenade. What changed is the brand over the door, the guest policy — it is adults-only now — and the names of the people answering the wedding email. Two practical consequences follow, and both are worth an email rather than a phone call.

First, confirm your ceremony site by its current name, because older brochures and third-party listings still use the previous labels for the same spaces. Second, get the outside-vendor terms restated in writing under the current management: those terms are set brand by brand, and a figure someone quoted you two years ago is not the figure you will be invoiced. Neither is a problem — they are just two lines in an email you will be glad to have kept.

Wedding Light Under a Canopy and Then on Open Sand

Golden hour, the warm and forgiving stretch around sundown, is where most wedding pictures live, and on the sand we usually build the ceremony to begin roughly two hours ahead of it: enough runway for vows, family groups and an unhurried portrait set while the colour holds. The mangrove garden plays by different rules. Under the canopy the light is already broken and gentle in the middle of the afternoon, so a ceremony there can start earlier than a beach one and still photograph beautifully — useful when a long guest list has to be fed at a sensible hour.

The variable is the calendar. Sundown drifts by close to ninety minutes between December and June, so a start time that ends in gold one month ends in the dark the next, and we anchor every timeline to the real sunset for your date. Hiring the Wedding Photographer You Actually Chose

Ask the wedding office, in writing, how the resort treats a photographer you bring yourself. Properties in this bracket normally do one of two things: charge an outside-vendor fee, or admit your photographer on a paid day pass. Both are routine, both belong in the contract, and both are far easier to settle months out than the week before. Legal, Symbolic, or the Resort’s Inclusive Ceremony

The wedding menu here lists three ceremonies, and the choice sets the tempo of the whole day. A civil, legal marriage in Mexico brings paperwork, witnesses and a stricter clock. A symbolic ceremony, led by a celebrant, carries no legal weight and is what most travelling couples choose after handling the legal part at home — through a lens the two are identical. And the third is written for same-sex couples, which is worth knowing in advance: an LGBTQ+ wedding here is a listed product rather than a favour asked at the desk.
