The Second Trip Is the One People Photograph: Every Session at Devossion by Live Aqua, and Holding the Date Costs Nothing
Half this list celebrates nothing at all: two people on their second or third trip to this coast, home in a week, with nothing to show for it but a camera roll of food. The named ones come after. Anniversaries — the fifth, the fifteenth, the one that went by without a single picture. Honeymoons booked by couples who had each been here before, years apart. A proposal built over months of quiet messages, down to which morning she is allowed to sleep in. Birthdays with a round number in them. A babymoon booked just before the airline says no. Friends who postponed this trip twice and finally paid a deposit. A yacht taken for one morning. Solo portraits, asked for last and almost apologetically. And unstyled mornings: coffee, no plan, nobody fully awake.
The name over the door is newer than most of our clients’ first trip to this coast. Devossion is the smaller adults-only idea that arrived under the Live Aqua name, and the couples who fill it tend to be returning travellers: they did the enormous all-inclusive once, liked the coast enough to book again, and this time wanted fewer people in the frame. That changes the job. A Devossion by Live Aqua photographer never has to sell anyone on the destination — you already know what a good morning here feels like — so the exchange stays practical: which day is still empty, who is in front of the camera, how long you are willing to be looked at. Thousands of sessions across Playa del Carmen keep that exchange short, and all of it fits into four or five WhatsApp messages traded long before anyone packs, with nothing charged to hold an hour and nothing owed if the week rearranges itself. The money is the short part, and it has sat in the same place for years, on our Playa del Carmen photographer page — one figure by the image, another by the package. Tell us your dates when you have them, even loosely, and the reply will name the hour we would keep for you.
The Sessions Devossion Couples Book Most
An adults-only hotel makes our job simple: almost everyone who messages us from this address arrives as a couple, and the trip is usually the reason for the photos. Nobody has to be a model — we direct the whole thing. These are the three sessions we photograph most for guests staying here.
Anniversaries
The number in front of the word does most of the work — the fifth, the tenth, the thirtieth. You have photographs from the day you got married and almost nothing since, and that gap is the single most common reason couples book us. We keep it slow: portraits of who the two of you are now rather than who you were in the album. Our anniversary session guide covers outfits and timing.
The couples trip
No number, no occasion, nothing to commemorate — you came here together and you would rather not go home with a camera roll of strangers' heads and one blurry selfie. This is the session we shoot most, and the easiest one to say yes to: you walk out while breakfast is still an idea, and you are back before the beach clubs open. Our couples photoshoot guide for Playa del Carmen shows what an unhurried hour looks like.
Vow renewals
Some couples come back to say it again — an anniversary that earned a ceremony, a promise that got tested. On open sand with the town behind you it stays small and it stays yours: the two of you, the words, and us far enough back that you forget the camera is running. Our vow renewal guide covers how a barefoot ceremony comes together on this coast.
Where Devossion Sits — and Where We Meet You
The most useful thing about your address survived the rebrand untouched: you are in Colonia Centro, not Playacar. No gate, no guard house, no shuttle schedule. Playa Mamitas is directly in front of you, and its public pedestrian access comes down Calle 28 Norte, three to five minutes on foot — which means you stroll out, we shoot, and you are back before anyone notices you left.
The beach in front of the hotel photographs like what it is: loungers in rows, a building behind you in every wide frame. Walk down Calle 28 Norte and the register changes — open sand, the Caribbean doing its turquoise thing, and the real Playa del Carmen behind you instead of a wall. That sand is public by law, so nothing about your session needs anyone's permission.
We meet you near the Calle 28 access — the exact pin goes out on WhatsApp the day before. One unhurried hour, gentle direction, and the frames you will love most taken while you had forgotten we were there.
Why We Put Couples on the 8am Slot
At 8am the sand is wide and quiet, which means nobody is in your background and nothing feels rushed. By 11am the beach clubs are running and it is a party — a good one, but not one you want inside a portrait. And because you are minutes from the sand, sunrise costs you nothing here: you are back with coffee before the day has started.
Simple Pricing, No Session Fee
Our pricing is deliberately boring, because this booking has already handed you enough surprises. There is no session fee: you pay $15 USD per photo with a 10-photo minimum ($150 USD), or choose a group package from $200 USD if friends came along — you only pay for the images you love. You can see everything we offer, and hundreds of recent sessions, on our Playa del Carmen photographer page.
Every hotel has its own rules about photography on the property. We know how each one works — message us and we’ll tell you exactly what your options are where you’re staying.
Want something more theatrical for the anniversary? Ask about our signature beach-gown editorial sessions in Playa del Carmen — meters of fabric in the sea breeze, on the same sand.
We are photographers for guests of Devossion by Live Aqua — not the hotel’s photographer, not sent by anyone. Send us your dates and we will tell you which morning on Mamitas is yours; hundreds of recent couples are on our Playa del Carmen photographer page.
Ready to Get the Two of You in the Frame?
Tell us your dates and how many of you are coming, and we’ll suggest the calmest morning slot on Mamitas. Early sessions here go first in high season.
What the Two of You Take Home
Four things about a session here that no change of ownership can touch.
-
A walk, not a taxi
Colonia Centro means no gate and no shuttle schedule. You leave the lobby and you are already in the town, so your session fits a morning you were going to have anyway.
-
Direction, not modelling
Almost nobody who books us has been photographed properly before. We tell you where to stand and when to keep walking — you never invent a pose.
-
You choose the photos
No session fee and no mystery bill. You see the gallery first and pay for the images you actually want, which takes the pressure off the whole hour.
-
A second backdrop, no car needed
Fifth Avenue runs parallel to the water, closed to cars, a few blocks from your room — an easy second backdrop when you want something other than ocean behind you.
Photo Sessions at Devossion by Live Aqua — FAQ
We are not models and we have never done a photoshoot. Will this be awkward?
Almost nobody who books us has been photographed properly before, and they usually apologise for it in the first message. There is nothing to apologise for — we direct the whole thing: we tell you where to stand and when to keep walking, and the frames you love most are usually the ones you did not know we were taking.
I booked the Grand Hyatt Playa del Carmen. Is Devossion the same hotel?
Yes — same building, same adults-only calm, same address in Colonia Centro. It is now operated by Grupo Posadas rather than Hyatt. Old directions still get your taxi to the right door.
How much does a couples photo session at Devossion cost?
There is no session fee. You pay $15 USD per photo with a 10-photo minimum ($150 USD), or a group package from $200 USD if friends join you. You only pay for the images you love.
Where do we meet you if we are staying at Devossion by Live Aqua?
At an easy public spot near the Calle 28 Norte access to Playa Mamitas, three to five minutes on foot from the hotel. We confirm the exact pin on WhatsApp the day before.
Can we get a sunset over the water in our photos?
Not from this beach — Playa del Carmen faces east, so the sun comes up over the sea and goes down behind the town. What you get instead is the best sunrise on the coast, and most couples here choose the early slot and never miss it.
Are you the hotel’s photographer?
No — we are photographers for guests of Devossion by Live Aqua, independent of the hotel and of Grupo Posadas. Guests find us, message us, and we meet them on the sand.
