The One Appointment in a Royal Hideaway Playacar Week, and Why Making It Is Free
Honeymoons open most of these weeks, photographed on the second morning, once the party has stopped ringing in everybody's ears. Anniversaries follow, several counted from a date nobody outside the two of them knows. A proposal whose only real difficulty was the jacket pocket at six in the morning, while one of us aimed a lens at the sky instead. Round-number birthdays nobody was allowed to announce at dinner. Maternity portraits at thirty-one weeks, slow and mostly seated. A bachelorette week four friends took two years to commit to. Couples on a fourth stay who have never once appeared in the same picture. A boat chartered for the morning, because open water beats any terrace. Adult siblings escorting parents who barely travel now. And a solo portrait, ordered last of all, once she has seen how the others came out.
Barceló puts its name on a long list of houses where somebody hands you a programme at check-in. This is the one at the top, and people climb the brand to reach it precisely so that nobody does. What the step up buys here is an absence: no one arranging your afternoon, no voice through a loudspeaker, nothing you can be late for. An absence is an awkward thing to plan around, so the hour we agree on ends up being the only fixed point in seven days, and a Royal Hideaway Playacar photographer has to earn that slot instead of assuming it. Thousands of sessions across Playa del Carmen have made it quick to place: you send dates, we name two mornings, and the rest closes in a WhatsApp thread opened while the suitcase is still in a cupboard. Keeping that morning is never billed. Nobody books a week like this in order to be sold something, so we skip that step too: the only two numbers in play, one for a photograph you keep and one for a package, are already published on our Playa del Carmen photographer page. Message us with the dates and one line about what this week is supposed to keep out. The hour goes where it keeps out the same thing.
Three Occasions Worth Photographing at Royal Hideaway
You chose an adults-only address, which tells us most of what we need before you even write: this is a couple’s trip, and the requests we receive from guests staying here are remarkably consistent. These are the three occasions we photograph most often for couples on this quiet end of Playacar.
Anniversaries
The trip is the gift; the photographs are the part that outlasts it. Five years, ten, thirty — the number changes and the request never does: one unhurried hour, the two of you, dressed the way you dressed for the dinner you already booked. We shoot it at first light so you are back with the whole day still in front of you, and so the beach in every frame is calm and yours. Our anniversary session guide shows how we pace an hour like that.
Honeymoons
The one trip you will describe for the rest of your lives, and almost nobody comes home with a real photograph of it — the phone stays in the room and the two of you stay out of the frame. This is the session we plan around your best evening or your slowest morning, unhurried and directed gently, so it looks like the honeymoon actually felt. Our couples photoshoot guide covers outfits and timing.
The adults-only escape
No milestone, no announcement, nothing to mark except the first week in a long while that belongs to nobody but the two of you — and a quiet preference for remembering it properly. This is the most relaxed of the three: a slow hour on the sand, light direction, and the two of you doing very little beyond being together. Our vacation photoshoot guide shows how an hour like that unfolds.
Where We Take You for a Private Hour
Royal Hideaway sits at the calm, residential end of Playacar — a quiet enclave of low buildings and shaded streets that is, by design, the least hectic corner of Playa del Carmen. The centre is close without being on top of you: the pedestrian stretch of Fifth Avenue is roughly a twenty-minute walk, or the short taxi ride you would take for dinner anyway, which means the sand we photograph on is only ever minutes from your room. For couples we can arrange to pick you up, and we send the exact pin over WhatsApp the day before.
Where we actually shoot depends on how private you want it. Playa Fundadores — the open public beach beside Parque Los Fundadores and the Portal Maya sculpture, at the foot of Avenida Juárez by the Cozumel ferry pier — is wide, free to anyone and a calm anchor a short hop north of Playacar. When you want almost nobody else in the frame, we head instead to Punta Esmeralda, a quieter public stretch further up the coast, where an early start buys you a beach that feels like your own. Either way there is no gate to clear and nothing that can cancel your morning.
Want one frame that belongs on a wall rather than in an album? Ask about our flying dress photoshoot at Royal Hideaway Playacar — metres of fabric in the morning breeze, made for a trip like this one.
Getting married at Royal Hideaway Playacar itself? Our wedding photography guide for the resort covers vendor fees, timing, and coordinating with the resort's wedding team.
No Session Fee — You Pay Only for What You Keep
Pricing is refreshingly simple: there is no session fee. You pay $15 USD per photo with a 10-photo minimum ($150 USD), or choose a package from $200 USD — so you commission the hour, then keep only the images you love. You can see everything we offer, and hundreds of recent sessions, on our Playa del Carmen photographer page.
Every hotel has its own rules about photography on the property. We know how each one works — message us and we’ll tell you exactly what your options are where you’re staying.
Almost nobody who books us has been photographed properly before, and there is nothing to apologise for — we direct the whole hour, and you can see how that turns out on our Playa del Carmen photographer page. Send us your dates and we will tell you which morning to keep free.
Ready to Have a Quiet Beach to the Two of You?
Tell us your dates and what you are celebrating, and we will hold a morning for you. The early slots are the private ones, and they go first.
Why Couples Here Book the Quiet End of the Beach
Everything we shoot for couples staying at Royal Hideaway happens on an open, public stretch of sand at first light — not for a bargain, but for the privacy and the control it hands a picture of the two of you.
-
The beach is yours
Before the loungers and the crowds arrive, an open stretch of public sand is quiet — so your anniversary picture holds the two of you and nobody else’s afternoon behind you.
-
Time to do it properly
An empty beach means an unhurried hour: we can shape the light and the frame instead of racing the crowd, which is the whole difference between a snapshot and a photograph.
-
We direct the whole thing
Almost nobody who books us has done this before. We tell you where to stand and what to do with your hands, so the result looks like the two of you, not like posing.
-
You keep only what you love
There is no session fee. You see the full gallery afterwards and choose from it, which takes any pressure off the hour itself.
Couples Sessions at Royal Hideaway — FAQ
We are not models and we have never done this. Will it look awkward?
No, and it is the thing almost everyone apologises for in their first message. Practically nobody who books us has been photographed properly before. We direct the entire hour: where to stand, where to look, and when to simply talk to each other and ignore us. What comes out looks like the two of you, not like posing.
How much does a couples session at Royal Hideaway cost?
There is no session fee. You pay $15 USD per photo with a 10-photo minimum ($150 USD), or choose a package from $200 USD. You see the full gallery first and choose from it afterwards, so you only ever pay for the images you love.
We want the session to feel private and low-key. Is that possible here?
It is exactly what most couples staying here ask for, and why we start early. On an open public beach at first light there is almost no one around, so the hour stays quiet and unhurried — no crowd walking through the frame, and the time to make each picture properly rather than rushing it.
Where do we meet you if we are staying at Royal Hideaway?
On a quiet stretch of public sand a short hop north of Playacar — usually Playa Fundadores by the Portal Maya sculpture, or Punta Esmeralda when you want it even more private. There is no resort access needed, we send the exact pin over WhatsApp the day before, and for couples we can arrange to pick you up.
Can we do it in the afternoon instead of the morning?
You can, though it is worth knowing the trade. This coast faces east, so there is no sunset over the water here. Mornings give you soft light and an empty beach; late afternoon is still lovely, it just will not be quiet. Either way, plan on about an hour on the sand.
