The Photos You Will Still Be Showing in Twenty Years

If you are staying at Mahekal Beach Resort, think about where these pictures are going to live. Not on a phone for a week — on a wall, in a slideshow at a graduation eighteen years from now. Last spring we photographed two parents, a four-year-old who refused to put down his stick, and a baby who naps at ten sharp; the frame they printed has palm crowns and thatched roofs behind it, not six floors of balconies. So it is worth asking before you book: twenty years from now, do you want a building behind your family?

We have photographed thousands of sessions across Playa del Carmen, and the parents who message us from this hotel always lead with the same worry: the logistics. Here there are none. The public access at the end of Calle 38 sits at the edge of the property, a minute or two on foot — no taxi, no car seats, no gambling against a nap. Six years and a thousand-plus clients in, that short walk is what families thank us for most.

What We Photograph Most for Mahekal Guests

Most of the people who write to us from this hotel are travelling as a family, and the trip itself is usually the reason for the photos. These are the three sessions we shoot most for guests staying here.

Families with little kids

A beach session with children is not a photoshoot, it is a supervised event that occasionally produces photographs — and that is fine, because those are the good ones. We do not line anyone up and count to three. We walk, your kids find a crab or a wave, and we photograph what happens around that: you get the frame you were imagining plus the twelve you were not, usually the ones that end up printed. Our family photoshoot guide covers outfits and timing — and because the sand is two minutes from your room, a toddler who has had enough is a five-minute problem, not a ruined afternoon.

Anniversaries

Plenty of couples here are quietly marking something: ten years, twenty, a vow renewal decided on over dinner. When the kids came too, we run it as two sessions inside one hour — the family frames first, then twenty minutes where the two of you are simply a couple again, on open sand with palms behind you. Our anniversary session guide shows how we pace it.

Everyday vacation memories

Not every session needs an occasion. A lot of guests here simply want real pictures of the trip instead of a camera roll full of strangers’ shoulders — the walk down the shore, the teenagers pretending they are too cool, the grandparents finally in the same frame as the grandchildren. Our vacation photoshoot guide shows the unforced frames we mean.

Where Mahekal Sits — and Where We Meet You

The public access at the end of Calle 38 is our default: it sits at the resort’s edge, so you walk out with your coffee still warm and get photographed before the beach wakes up. A second access is a block north at Calle 40 — our answer when 38 has a crowd, and it costs you ninety seconds rather than a car ride. We send the exact meeting pin on WhatsApp the day before, so nobody stands on the sand texting where are you?

Here is why we walk you those two minutes. The sand in front of any hotel is a hotel beach: loungers, towels, other guests. At the Calle 38 access you get the same water with the real Playa del Carmen behind you — the tree line, the low roofs, the town waking up. That sand is open to everyone, so nothing can cancel your session.

If you want the louder Caribbean, Playa Mamitas sits at Calle 28 Norte, five blocks south — about eight minutes on foot — so we can start quiet at 38 and finish with music behind you in one session. But eight minutes is nothing to an adult and a negotiation to a four-year-old: most parents staying here never leave Calle 38, and that stretch needs no upgrade.

Simple Pricing, No Session Fee

There is no session fee. You pay $15 USD per photo with a 10-photo minimum ($150 USD), or a group package from $200 USD when there are enough of you that counting frames stops making sense — you only pay for the images you love, which takes the pressure off an hour with unpredictable toddlers. You can see everything we offer, and hundreds of recent sessions, on our Playa del Carmen photographer page.

Every hotel has its own rules about photography on the property. We know how each one works — message us and we’ll tell you exactly what your options are where you’re staying.

And if you want something more theatrical, ask about our signature beach-gown editorial sessions in Playa del Carmen — meters of fabric in the sea breeze, made for a celebration.

Tell us your dates and how many of you are coming, and we will come back with a morning that fits around the naps. You can browse everything we shoot on our Playa del Carmen photographer page.

What You Take Home

What Your Family Walks Away With

In twenty years nobody will remember the light. They will remember who was in the picture — and what was standing behind them.

  1. No tower behind your kids

Palm crowns and thatched roofs instead of six floors of balconies — which is why these frames still look like the Caribbean two decades from now.

  2. Two minutes, not two taxis

The public access at Calle 38 sits at the resort edge, with Calle 40 a block north as backup. You walk out, we shoot, you are back before the baby needs anything.

  3. Nobody has to be a model

Almost nobody who books us has been photographed properly before. There is nothing to apologise for — we direct the whole thing.

  4. You choose the photos afterwards

No session fee and no bundle you did not ask for. You see the images first and pay only for the ones you would hang on a wall.

Photo Sessions at Mahekal Beach Resort — FAQ

Is a beach session realistic with a toddler who will not sit still?

Yes — it is most of what we shoot here. We never ask small children to hold a pose: we work in short bursts, let them dig and splash, and catch the candids in between. The Calle 38 access helps more than any technique, because the sand is a minute or two from your room and a snack break costs five minutes instead of the session.

We are not models and we have never done this. Is that a problem?

Almost nobody who books us has been photographed properly before, and they usually apologise for it in the first message. There is nothing to apologise for — we direct the whole thing: where to stand, where to look, what to do with your hands. Most parents forget the camera about ten minutes in, which is when the good frames start.

How much does a family photo session near Mahekal Beach Resort cost?

There is no session fee. It is $15 USD per photo with a 10-photo minimum ($150 USD), or a group package from $200 USD when there are more of you — so you pay only for the images you want, chosen after you see them.

Where exactly do we meet for a session at Mahekal Beach Resort?

At the public beach access at the end of Calle 38, right at the edge of the resort — a minute or two on foot, which means you leave your room and get photographed without a taxi or a plan. If it is busy, we move a block north to the Calle 40 access. We send the exact pin on WhatsApp the day before.
