The Yucatan Playa del Carmen

Your Couples Photographer at The Yucatan Playa del Carmen

Couples, anniversaries and quiet getaways on the public sand at Playa Mamitas — a few blocks down the Quinta, shot in the hour before the beach fills up.

The Yucatan Playa del Carmen

Be in the Frame, Not Behind It

You booked The Yucatan because it is small and it is right on the Quinta — a boutique, adults-only hotel where the Fifth Avenue starts under your window and there is no lobby the size of an airport to get lost in. It is the kind of place couples pick on purpose. Then the trip runs the way these trips run. The messages we get from guests staying here open the same way almost every time: one couple wrote to us last winter, three days into an anniversary trip, and put it plainly — “we have two hundred photos and I took every one of them.” You came for the pictures neither of you can be in while you are the one holding the phone.

We’ve photographed thousands of sessions across Playa del Carmen, and the ones we shoot for couples staying at a boutique hotel like this almost always happen the same way: a short walk down to the public sand at first light. Staying on the Quinta, you have no resort beach to default to — which, for a couple, quietly works in your favour. There is no strip of loungers and logos in every frame, just open sand a few blocks away that at that hour is effectively yours. Six years and more than a thousand clients later, that walk is still the easiest thing we can hand you.

The Occasions Couples Book From a Hotel This Small

You picked a small adults-only hotel, and that tells us most of what we need to know before you even write: no family lineup, no matching shirts, no toddler setting the schedule. It is two people, almost every time. These are the three sessions we photograph most for couples staying here.

The couples trip

No occasion, nothing to announce — just the first week in a long time that belongs to nobody but the two of you, and a wish to remember it as more than a phone gallery. This is the most relaxed session we do: a slow hour on the sand, gentle direction, and the two of you doing very little beyond being together. Our couples photoshoot guide covers what to wear and when to go.

Anniversaries

The trip is the gift; the photographs are the part that outlives it. Five years or twenty-five, the number changes and the request never does — one unhurried hour, dressed the way you dressed for the dinner you already booked, shot early so the rest of the day stays yours. Our anniversary session guide shows how we pace an hour like that.

The kid-free escape

For a lot of the couples who write to us from here, this is the first trip in years without the kids — and the first chance in just as long to be in a photo as a couple, not as somebody’s parents holding a toddler. We keep it easy and unhurried, and you go home with proof the two of you still exist outside the school run. Our vacation photoshoot guide covers folding a relaxed session into an easy morning.

Walking You Down to Playa Mamitas

From your room the whole logistics plan is a walk, and it is a short one. The Yucatan sits on the Fifth Avenue at Calle 32 Norte, and the public access to Playa Mamitas opens a few blocks south, off Calle 28 Norte — close enough that guests describe the hotel as a block from the beach, which means no taxi to book and nothing that can fail between your alarm and the first frame. We meet you at the beach access, and we send the exact pin over WhatsApp the day before.

The hour is the only thing we ask you to commit to. The beach club at Mamitas opens later in the morning, so while it is still shut the sand in front of you is quiet and effectively yours — and the walk back up the Quinta, past a café that is only just opening, is the easiest possible start to a day you have not spent yet.

Want one frame that belongs on a wall rather than in an album? Ask about our signature beach-gown editorial sessions in Playa del Carmen — metres of fabric in the morning breeze, made for exactly this kind of trip.

Simple Pricing, No Session Fee

Pricing is refreshingly simple: there is no session fee. You pay $15 USD per photo with a 10-photo minimum ($150 USD), or choose a group package from $200 USD if friends are travelling with you — so you only pay for the images you love. You can see everything we offer, and hundreds of recent sessions, on our Playa del Carmen photographer page.

Every hotel has its own rules about photography on the property. We know how each one works — message us and we’ll tell you exactly what your options are where you’re staying.

Almost nobody who books us has been photographed properly before, and there is nothing to apologise for — we direct the whole thing, and you can see how that turns out on our Playa del Carmen photographer page. Send us your dates and we will tell you which morning to keep free.

Ready to Come Home With Photos of the Two of You?

Tell us your dates and what you are celebrating, and we will hold a morning for you. The early slots at Mamitas are the ones that go first.

Why First Light

Why Couples Here Book Us at First Light

Everything we shoot for couples staying at The Yucatan happens in one short window — not for the light, but because that is the hour the public sand is still quiet and still yours.

  1. You get the beach to yourselves

Before the loungers come out at Mamitas, the sand is quiet — so the two of you are the only ones in your anniversary picture, with nobody else’s morning behind you.

  2. A walk, not a taxi

Staying right on the Quinta, you reach the sand in a few minutes on foot down a pedestrian avenue — nothing to book, nothing that can run late.

  3. We direct the whole thing

Almost nobody who books us has done this before. We tell you where to stand and what to do with your hands, so the result looks like the two of you.

  4. You keep only what you love

There is no session fee. You see the full gallery afterwards and choose from it, which takes all the pressure off the hour.

Good to Know

Couples Sessions at The Yucatan — FAQ

We are not models and we have never done this. Will it look awkward?

No, and it is the thing almost everyone apologises for in their first message. Practically nobody who books us has been photographed properly before. We direct the entire hour: where to stand, where to look, and when to simply talk to each other and ignore us. What comes out looks like the two of you, not like posing.

How much does a couples session at The Yucatan cost?

There is no session fee. You pay $15 USD per photo with a 10-photo minimum ($150 USD), or choose a group package from $200 USD if friends are travelling with you. You see the full gallery first and choose from it afterwards, so you only ever pay for the images you love.

We are travelling without the kids for the first time. Is a beach session worth it for just the two of us?

It is one of the most common reasons couples book us from this hotel. A kid-free trip is often the first chance in years to be in a photo as a couple rather than as parents, and it is the easiest possible session to run — a slow hour, gentle direction, and nobody else to wrangle. Most couples tell us afterwards it was the thing they were gladdest they did.

Where do we meet you if we are staying at The Yucatan?

At the public beach access on Calle 28 Norte, which opens onto Playa Mamitas a few blocks down from the hotel — an easy walk along the pedestrian Fifth Avenue. We send the exact pin over WhatsApp the day before.

Does it have to be in the morning?

It does not, but you should know the trade. This coast faces east, so there is no sunset over the water here. Mornings give you soft light and an empty beach; the hour before sunset is still beautiful, it just will not be quiet. Either way, plan on about an hour on the sand.
