An island just off Cancun — but a world apart
Isla Mujeres is a jewel of the Caribbean lying just off the coast of Cancun, reachable on a quick Ultramar ferry from Puerto Juarez or Playa Tortugas in about twenty to thirty minutes. That short crossing makes all the difference: you leave behind the high-rise hotel zone and step onto an island with crystalline turquoise water, soft white sand and a relaxed, unhurried island atmosphere. Many of our guests — a great number of them travelers from the United States, Canada and Europe — come over as a day trip from Cancun, while others stay on the island. Either way, the moment you arrive you feel the change in pace.
Far less crowded than Cancun's main beaches
The biggest reason Isla Mujeres photographs so beautifully is simple: it is far less crowded than the busy beaches of Cancun. Instead of dodging sun loungers and other tourists, you have room to move, to let the dress sweep across open sand, and to find frames where it is just you and the sea. That quiet is what gives the images their editorial, almost private feeling — the kind of photoshoot that looks exclusive because it genuinely is.
Playa Centro: shallow, glassy turquoise water
Our sessions take place at Playa Centro, the calm stretch of sand right beside the world-famous Playa Norte — consistently ranked among the best beaches in the Caribbean — and it is tailor-made for a Flying Dress session. The sand is powder-soft and the water stays shallow and calm far from shore, so it reads as a sheet of glassy turquoise behind you. That shallow, gentle water means we can step in for stunning shots without fighting waves, and the light bounces off the sea bed to fill the dress with color. It is one of the most photogenic stretches of beach anywhere on the Mexican Caribbean.
A spot that does half the work for you
Because Playa Centro sits just steps from Playa Norte, you get that same unmistakable turquoise water and pale, fine sand, but on a quieter, more workable stretch for a photoshoot. We choose the exact spot on the morning based on the light, the tide and the look you are after, so your session can have real range without ever feeling far from anywhere. It is the kind of backdrop most people never get to stand in — and it is right where we set up.
A genuinely unique, exclusive experience
As the original creators of the Flying Dress experience in the Riviera Maya, we have shot across every corner of the coast, and Isla Mujeres remains one of our favorites precisely because it feels exclusive. The combination of a separate island, quieter beaches and that unmistakable turquoise water gives your photos a setting most people never get to stand in. It is the kind of backdrop that makes friends ask where on earth the pictures were taken.
The best light, and the best season
For the softest light and the emptiest beach, we recommend starting at 8 in the morning — the light is soft and flattering, the sand is calm and quiet, and the colors are at their richest before the day warms up. A session runs about an hour, and the dry season from November through April brings the most reliable conditions, with calm seas and clear skies. Whatever time of year you visit, we plan around the tides and the light to make the most of the island.
How we make the day easy
Getting to an island can sound complicated, but it is not — and unlike a cruise stop, we can actually help. Transport assistance is available on request, so we can help coordinate your crossing and arrange a meeting point that suits whether you are coming for the day or staying on the island. Your session includes the dress, your photographer and a clothing assistant who manages the fabric so it catches the wind beautifully, and your professionally edited photos arrive within 72 hours through a private online gallery.
Perfect for groups, bachelorettes and families
Isla Mujeres is wonderful for groups, bachelorette parties and families, and bringing along the people you love costs nothing extra. We offer group discounts with a personalized quote, and for larger groups we split everyone into smaller subgroups on staggered start times — for example 8, 9 and 10 in the morning — with several photographers, one per person, so it stays dynamic and nobody waits around. As one round of about an hour wraps up, the next group steps in. The relaxed island setting is part of what makes it such a memorable day out together.
What to wear and a small insider tip
Flying Dress sessions are shot barefoot on the sand, so there is nothing to carry but yourself. The dress is included and provided in sizes XS to XXXL. One useful tip: wear a strapless or backless swimsuit underneath, so nothing shows through the airy, flowing fabric. Bring sunscreen and a hat for between shots, and let us handle the rest.
