The Photo Everyone Will Ask You About

Somewhere in your camera roll there is already a screenshot of this: a woman on white Caribbean sand, meters of fabric lifted into the wind behind her. The messages we get from guests staying at The Westin Cancun usually open with that exact picture and one line — "I want this while we're here." Whether the trip is a honeymoon, a babymoon or a birthday that deserves more than a selfie, this is the session that turns it into the photograph everyone asks about.

We've photographed thousands of sessions across Cancún, and the flying dress is the one we've refined into a choreography: we bring the dress in your color and size, an assistant shapes the fabric into the wind on every frame, and the photographer catches the peak of the movement at exactly the right beat. You stand where the light is best — the flying is our job.

The Flying Dress Experience

Everything Is Arranged — You Just Step Into the Frame

Guests staying at The Westin Cancun book this session because it asks almost nothing of them: no dress to pack, no poses to invent, no logistics to solve.

  1. The dress comes to you

Choose your color from our curated collection, in sizes XS to XXXL. It travels to the beach with us — nothing extra in your suitcase, nothing to rent or return.

  2. No modeling experience needed

Almost nobody who books us has done an editorial shoot before. We direct every frame — where to stand, where to look, what to do with your hands — while the assistant makes the fabric fly.

  3. Two shorelines, minutes apart

The Westin sits on a narrow spit with the open Caribbean on one side and the sheltered Nichupté Lagoon on the other, so we can pick the backdrop — bright open sea or still, mirror-calm water — that suits your color and the light that day.

  4. Minutes from your room

We shoot on the public beach a couple of minutes from the resort. You come down, we shoot, and you're back before the day's first mimosa.

The Flying Dress Sessions The Westin Cancun Guests Book Most

Down at KM 20, past almost every other resort in the zone, this is the quiet end of the strip — and the guest we meet on this sand is almost always here to slow down. These are the three sessions we photograph most for guests staying at The Westin:

Honeymoons & Anniversaries

The dress steals the frame, but your partner doesn't have to stay behind the camera: most couples mix editorial solo shots with portraits of the two of you in the same golden light. The wide, quiet southern sand is made for exactly this. Our anniversary session guide walks through how couples shape that hour.

Babymoons

A calm, gentle beach is exactly what you want for a babymoon portrait, and this southern stretch — with fewer crowds and a short, flat walk from the beach access — is one of the softest on the whole coast. We keep the pace unhurried, work in short bursts, and leave plenty of room to sit and breathe between frames. Our maternity and babymoon guide for Cancún covers timing and what to wear.

Milestone Birthdays

The trip that marks a decade — or just a year that deserved better — earns a photograph that doesn't look like anyone else's. Our birthday photoshoot guide shows how we build the session around the celebration.

What Your Session Looks Like

About one hour, fully guided from the first frame to the last. We arrive with the dress, you slip it over whatever you're wearing, and from there every shot is directed: the assistant lifts and shapes the fabric into the wind, the photographer calls the moment, and you simply hold the pose you've been placed in. Everything each package includes is laid out on our Flying Dress Cancun packages page.

Sunrise Keeps the Sand — and the Moment — Yours

We'll almost always propose an early slot on the Caribbean side, and not for the astronomy: at sunrise this far-south stretch is nearly empty, so you get clean backgrounds, soft flattering light and the privacy to enjoy the whole production without an audience. Prefer the lagoon's copper-and-rose late-afternoon light instead? That works just as well — tell us your dates and we'll recommend the window for the mood you want.

Where We Fly the Dress Near The Westin Cancun

Sessions happen on the public beach a couple of minutes from the resort, on the quiet southern sand near KM 20 — and because the property sits on a narrow spit with the open Caribbean on one side and the sheltered Nichupté Lagoon on the other, we can choose the exact shore for you based on the light and the day's wind, so the fabric flies instead of fights. Want to go bigger? Add our flying dress with drone for the aerial shot of the dress spread across the sand, or the flying dress with horse for the full editorial fantasy.

Prefer relaxed portraits over movement, or traveling with the family? See our guide to family, couples and babymoon photo sessions at The Westin Cancun. And if this trip is the wedding itself, our guide to getting married at The Westin Cancun covers the whole day.

Good to Know

Flying Dress at The Westin Cancun — FAQ

I've never modeled — will I actually know what to do?

Yes, because you never have to decide anything mid-shoot. We direct every frame — where to stand, where to look, when to move — and the assistant handles the dress entirely. Almost none of our clients have done an editorial session before; it's designed for exactly that.

Can my partner or my family be in some of the shots?

Absolutely, and most sessions mix both: editorial solo frames with the dress, then portraits with your partner or family in the same light. Tell us who's coming and we'll plan the hour around it.

Do I have to stay at The Westin to do the photoshoot?

No. We shoot on the public beach near KM 20, open to everyone. And if you are staying at The Westin, message us — we'll tell you exactly what your options are where you're staying.

How much is a flying dress photoshoot at The Westin Resort and Spa Cancun?

Each package includes a different number of edited photos and extras. See our current Flying Dress Cancun packages for full pricing, then book your date with us directly.

What is the best time of day for the session?

Sunrise on the Caribbean side for golden backlight, calm seas and the emptiest sand. Late afternoon on the lagoon side is the other favorite, when the still water turns amber and copper. We'll recommend the exact window for your date.

Do you provide the flying dress?

Yes. We bring a collection of flowing dresses in several colors, sizes XS to XXXL, and it's included with the session — you don't rent, buy or pack anything.
