Editorial flying dress photography on the wide, calm sand of Bahía Petempich — minutes from Royalton Riviera Cancún, where the Riviera Maya begins.

Royalton Riviera Cancún

The Photo Everyone Will Ask You About

Somewhere in your camera roll there is already a screenshot of this: a woman on white Caribbean sand, meters of fabric lifted into the wind behind her, an open horizon at her back. The messages we get from guests staying at Royalton Riviera Cancún usually open with that exact picture and one line — "I want this on the quiet bay." Whether the trip is a honeymoon, a babymoon or an anniversary that deserves more than a phone selfie, this is the session that turns it into the photograph everyone asks about.

We've photographed thousands of sessions across the Riviera Maya, and the flying dress is the one we've refined into a choreography: we bring the dress in your color and size, an assistant shapes the fabric into the wind on every frame, and the photographer catches the peak of the movement at exactly the right beat. You stand where the light is best — the flying is our job.

The Flying Dress Experience

Everything Is Arranged — You Just Step Into the Frame

Guests staying at Royalton Riviera Cancún book this session because it asks almost nothing of them: no dress to pack, no poses to invent, no logistics to solve.

  1. The dress comes to you

Choose your color from our curated collection, in sizes XS to XXXL. It travels to the beach with us — nothing extra in your suitcase, nothing to rent or return.

  2. No modeling experience needed

Almost nobody who books us has done an editorial shoot before. We direct every frame — where to stand, where to look, what to do with your hands — while the assistant makes the fabric fly.

  3. A wide, protected bay

Bahía Petempich runs long and calm, with the kind of steady sea breeze and open horizon that keeps a flying dress fully extended through the whole session.

  4. Minutes from your suite

We shoot on the public beach a couple of minutes from the resort. You come down, we shoot, and you're back before the day's first mimosa.

The Flying Dress Sessions Royalton Riviera Guests Book Most

This is where the Riviera Maya begins, and the guest we meet on this wide, quiet sand is almost always here for something worth slowing down for. These are the three sessions we photograph most for guests staying here:

Honeymoons & Anniversaries

The dress steals the frame, but your partner doesn't have to stay behind the camera: most couples mix editorial solo shots with portraits of the two of you in the same soft morning light. The calm, wide-open bay is made for exactly this. Our anniversary session guide walks through how couples shape that hour.

Babymoons

A calm, gentle beach is exactly what you want for a babymoon portrait, and Bahía Petempich — a protected bay with flat, shallow water — is one of the softest stretches on this coast. We keep the pace unhurried, work in short bursts, and leave plenty of room to sit and breathe between frames. Our maternity and babymoon guide for Cancún covers timing and what to wear.

Milestone Birthdays

The trip that marks a decade — or just a year that deserved better — earns a photograph that doesn't look like anyone else's. Our birthday photoshoot guide shows how we build the session around the celebration.

What Your Session Looks Like

About one hour, fully guided from the first frame to the last. We arrive with the dress, you slip it over whatever you're wearing, and from there every shot is directed: the assistant lifts and shapes the fabric into the wind, the photographer calls the moment, and you simply hold the pose you've been placed in. Everything each package includes is laid out on our Flying Dress Cancun packages page.

The Bay Belongs to the Morning

This beach faces due east, so the finest hour of the day is the first one: dawn spreads soft, warm light straight across the bay, and the sand is nearly yours alone. We'll almost always propose an early slot for exactly that reason — sunset still glows here, but the sun sets landward behind the resort rather than over the water, so mornings give you the cleaner light and the privacy to enjoy the whole production without an audience.

Where We Fly the Dress Near Royalton Riviera

Royalton Riviera Cancún opens onto Bahía Petempich, about 20 minutes (roughly 18 km) south of Cancún International Airport, on the corridor toward Puerto Morelos — the very first stretch of the Riviera Maya. Sessions happen on the public beach a couple of minutes from the resort, on the wide, protected sand of the bay, and we choose the exact spot for you based on the light and the day's wind, so the fabric flies instead of fights. Want the postcard hotel-zone backdrop instead? We can also plan your session at Playa Delfines and its famous CANCUN sign (about 25–30 minutes north) or Playa Fórum (about 35 minutes) — but honestly, the quiet bay in front of the resort holds its own. Want to go bigger? Add our flying dress with drone for the aerial shot of the dress spread across the sand, or the flying dress with horse for the full editorial fantasy.

Traveling with the family, or a big group? See our guide to family and group photo sessions at Royalton Riviera Cancún. And if this trip is the wedding itself, our guide to getting married at Royalton Riviera Cancún covers the whole day.

Good to Know

Flying Dress at Royalton Riviera Cancun — FAQ

I've never modeled — will I actually know what to do?

Yes, because you never have to decide anything mid-shoot. We direct every frame — where to stand, where to look, when to move — and the assistant handles the dress entirely. Almost none of our clients have done an editorial session before; it's designed for exactly that.

Can my partner or my family be in some of the shots?

Absolutely, and most sessions mix both: editorial solo frames with the dress, then portraits with your partner or family in the same light. Tell us who's coming and we'll plan the hour around it.

Do I have to stay at Royalton Riviera to do the photoshoot?

No. We shoot on the public beach at Bahía Petempich, a couple of minutes from the resort and open to everyone. And if you are staying at Royalton Riviera, message us — we'll tell you exactly what your options are where you're staying.

How much is a flying dress photoshoot at Royalton Riviera Cancun?

Each package includes a different number of edited photos and add-ons, so the full breakdown lives on our Flying Dress Cancun packages page. Check it out, then book your date with us directly on WhatsApp.

What is the best time of day for the session?

Sunrise. This east-facing bay is at its emptiest, the light is soft and golden, and the whole session stays private — you're done before the beach wakes up. We'll recommend the exact window for your date.

Do you provide the flying dress?

Yes. We bring a curated collection of flowing dresses in multiple colors, sizes XS to XXXL, and it's included with the session — you don't rent, buy or pack anything.
